Review: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

Title: The Time Traveler's Wife
Author: Audrey Niffenegger
Format: Trade Paperback
Source: Purchased from Barnes & Noble

 Synopsis from Goodreads:
Audrey Niffenegger's innovative debut, The Time Traveler's Wife, is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry finds himself periodically displaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's marriage and their passionate love for each other, as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals - steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.

My Thoughts:

Wow! And this is Audrey Niffenegger's debut book? I am amazed. This is a fabulous read! The concept of the storyline seems complex but Audrey puts it together nicely and makes it easy for the reader to follow the time line. Have the tissues ready!

I saw the movie before I read the book, not something I would have normally done but I'm glad it worked out that way. Seeing the movie first allowed me to have a visual of the time line; you get to see everything fall together in place. I wish they would have incorporated the last scene from the book into the movie.

The Book Vixen's Rating:

10 People had something to say:

  1. This was one of those books that I didn't think would work as well as it did, with all the time-switching. She handled it quite deftly. I was immersed deep into the lives of Henry and Clare.

    She made librarians hot!

Can't wait for her next book.

  9. I have not seen the movie but I loved this book. Hubby is obsessed w/Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana is pretty tasty so I will have to Netflix this one soon. :)
