Thursday Thirteen: 13 Reasons We Love Our Favorite Genres

Thursday Thirteen

Thursday Thirteen is a weekly meme with a simple theme: each Thursday you blog a list of 13 things. What kind of things? Any kind! Just come up with a list theme and run with it.

Why Brianna loves Romantic Suspense:

  1. It blends two of my favorite genres - romance and suspense.
  2. The hero is usually a man in uniform.
  3. Action, and lots of it.
  4. Mystery. Love the 'who done it' aspect.
  5. The Intensity.
  6. Keeps me on the edge of my seat.
  7. Gets me thinking.
  8. Always learn something new. Lingo. Protocols. Weaponry. Tactics.
  9. The element of danger.
  10. Twists and turns.
  11. Sometimes the situations and/or locations are so outside my reach, it's fun to experience them from the safety of my couch.
  12. The adrenaline rush.
  13. At the end of the day, it all comes down to HEA.

Why J9 loves MM Romance:

  1. Because MM romance often has the couple explore their relationship in context of the world they live in where I find MF couples more isolated.
  2. I enjoy the complicated exploration of sexual identity in MM romance that is taken for granted in MF romance.
  3. I love to read about emotionally vulnerable men.
  4. The leads often have a friendship in MM romance that I find is sometimes missing in MF romance.
  5. I love the character growth in (good) MM romance.
  6. I enjoy the variety of settings in MM romance.
  7. I find it romantic that the leads in MM romance sometimes wear each others clothes (silly I know!).
  8. Men in MM romance aren't always rich or powerful but seem more realistic than men in MF romance.
  9. Physical perfection isn't a requisite for romance leads as I feel it often is in MF romance.
  10. I love to read men talking about their emotions.
  11. Historical MM romance is too rare and I love to read it when I find it.
  12. Two Dicks...
  13. Are better than one!

  4. My favorite genre is contemporary (YA)-I don't know how many reasons I can come up with but I love returning to high school and the snappy writing often present as well as they fact that they're usually standalones.
