In a Nutshell: Nebraska native Natalie finds out there's more to her biological father than the fact he's Russian heritage when she is swept up, over night, into a world of wealth and intrigue. All of this pales in comparison to the instant deep, dark lust she feels in the presence of her new bodyguard, Aleksandr “The Siberian” Sevastyan.
The Set Up: A DNA match leads to danger and some hot sexy times.
Why I Read this Book: I really enjoy Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series, in part for its way of combining humour, adventure, and hot and heavy sexy-time action. So when I found out Cole was writing an Erotica series, I was all over that. I'm pretty sure I squealed when I saw The Professional: Part 1 on NetGalley and squealed even louder when I was approved a copy.
What I Liked: True to form, Kresley Cole has written some smart characters. Natalie isn't a young ingénue with the brain and life-experience of a gnat; she's a smart, cynical, and hilarious multi-faceted character. If only more female characters in Erotica were written this way.
What I Also Liked: The Professional: Part 1 is only 160 pages and it is full of beautiful descriptions, vivid imagery, great characters and humour. This isn't a run of the mill, slapped together Erotica. This is engrossing, well written literature that happens to be sexy as hell.
What I Didn’t Like: The second book of the series isn't out until January. GIMME MORE!
Overall Impression: This is quality reading. Yeah, it's Erotica so there's lots of sex and sexual overtones and a smattering of BDSM and smart literary types will poo poo all over it, but it's so GOOD! If you already enjoy Kresley Cole and/or enjoy smart Erotica with multi-dimensional characters and a well-woven story-line, then you should jump on this.
