I was going through my posts, ‘summer cleaning’ if you will, and I came across a Q&A I did for BBAW 2009. I thought it would be fun to revisit these questions and see how my reading habits have changed.
Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Chocolate. Anything chocolate makes for a great reading snack.
Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
No, absolutely not. I don’t even like to crack the spine. And thank goodness for ereaders! I can highlight and make notes all I want without hurting the book.
How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?
This is why I love my ereader. My Kindle keeps my place for me and I can even sync between my Kindle Touch and the Kindle app on my iPod Touch without losing my place. With hard copies I usually use random receipts or pieces of mail unless I happen to spot a bookmark nearby.
Laying the book flat open?
No. No creases in the spine.
Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
99.9% Fiction. The truth is just too boring. <--- Sticking with my original answer for this one.
Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy or ebook. I can’t do audio books. I’ve tried listening to an audio book and I just don’t have the focus. I am too easily distracted.
Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I usually put down a book at the end of a paragraph or page. I’m mainly a night reader and I’ll read until my eyes can no longer stay open. It would be impossible for me to wait and read until the end of a chapter.
If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Yup. I mainly read on an ereader and there’s a dictionary built right in. If I’m reading a print copy of a book, I usually have my iPod Touch close by and can easily look up a word there.
What are you currently reading?
Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks.
What is the last book you bought?
The Wild Ones by M. Leighton.
Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
Most of the time I read one book at a time. There are times when I can read two books at the same time but they have to be different genres or I’ll start mixing up storylines and characters.
Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
Any time that grants me peace and quiet around so I can absorb what I'm reading. That tends to be at night when everyone's asleep. I like to read in bed or on the couch. <---- Sticking with this answer, as it still applies.
Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
Stand alone books or series books where each book features a different hero and heroine are my preference.
Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
In no particular order: Nicholas Sparks, Shiloh Walker, Shannon Stacey, Simone Elkeles, Inez Kelley, the BDB series by J.R. Ward, the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, the Fool’s Gold series by Susan Mallery, the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep …. I could go on ….
How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
I have two bookcases; one houses the books I’ve read, the other holds my TBR pile. From there, I try to keep series and books by the same author together but I really don’t have an organized system in place.
