Romantic Tales: Bedtime Stories - Season One Blog Tour

Today, I have author Ty Langston here with us talking about writing dialogue. Welcome to The Book Vixen Ty!

Author Guest Post

When it’s done right, it flows beautifully, and when it doesn’t? It can stop a story cold regardless of plot, and wonderful book description.

To make a book, a great book, you need a great plot, descriptions and for me great dialogue between either main characters or secondary characters. It can help move a story along, help a reader grasp what the characters are attempting to get across and also it makes the characters credible and three-dimensional.

The best way, I’ve learned to write the dialogue between my characters is not only by reading and writing it, but also by watching people talk.

It doesn’t have to be a dramatic conservation it can be something as simple as two people talking about the kinds of food like they liked or some event they observed. Reading how the characters interpret things gives such so much insight that you want to learn more about them.

Readers, who are your favorite book characters and is there something about their dialogue or a quote that strikes you?

About the Authors

Author Ty LangstonTy Langston

As a child, multi-published author Ty Langston loved to read about dragons and knights so much that one day, her grandmother told her to “just write about them.”

So she did.

From that day forward, she never left home without her pen, a notebook, and some kind of music playing in the background. Her love of reading expanded from fantasy into science fiction, and eventually into paranormal romance and erotica.

She enjoys different works from George Martin, Anne McCaffrey, Stephen King, and Jackie Collins. But some of Ty’s favorite writers are from the world of TV and film: namely, Tudors creator Michael Hirst, and the late John Hughes.

Ty has a certificate in Broadcast Journalism along with a degree in Business Administration.

She is single and enjoys spending time with friends and family.

There is really not much to say... I love to write, read, and listen to music. My attempt at a music career sadly ended at the Apollo one warm night in May! LOL (Side note: I was not booed just outdone by two munchkins rapping to Biggy Smalls but they were good!)

Military brat extraordinaire; have traveled to a lot of interesting places.

The very first time I put pen to paper in story fashion, was in 6th grade. It was called The Case of the Missing Pepperoni.

It was a cute mystery where all the ingredients and shop appliances came to life when the store owner closed up for the evening.

Xander’s never taken no for an answer when it comes to getting what he wants and at every opportunity that is given to him Xander seems to fail miserably. Excerpt

From Crave by Ty Langston:

“I can’t believe he left you in the middle of the lake.” Ellen said while she passed Harper a towel to dry off with.

The two women sat on Harper’s couch. Harper was livid, not only at herself for falling for such a prank, but again for being captivated by an individual, who at any given moment could tear her from limb to limb if provoked.

Harper took the towel and began to dry her hair. “He’s such an asshole, I can’t believe I fell for that shit.”

Ellen snickered. “Well, he is a charmer, that one. I, for one, can understand how it could’ve happened.”

“Piece of shit he is. He’s arrogant, snarky. You know that we had a bet, that if he charmed the pants off me, then he’d take me out on a date? Would you believe…. the sad part is I agreed to it? What the hell is wrong with me?” Ellen let out a huge belly laugh.

Harper folded her arms in protest. “It’ll never happen again, ever. He thinks every woman should bow down to him; the way that he saunters around in those pants that seem as if they’re spray painted on, and don’t forget that hair….Geesh.”

Ellen chuckled. “He’s got a body and voice that’s made for sin.”

“I want to go to Heaven, thank you.” Harper snapped.

  4. I like the hero to start off rough around the edges while the woman he falls in love with chips away and finds the gentle loving side that only she can bring out in him.

  10. This looks like a great mix of stories.

This is going to sound really strange, but my favorite type of male is the Beta male. Not quite the alpha, still strong and dependable, but doesn't have to be be the macho asshole 24/7.
