What Book Are On Your ‘Should’ve Read But Haven’t Yet’ List?

Discussion

Brianna: There are books on my TBR list that I’ve been wanting to read and for some reason or another I just haven’t. A lot of them actually. And I’m speaking of books that (a) I actually own and are sitting on my shelf (or Kindle) and (b) books that I do not yet have in my possession but want to read. I know you don’t have a large TBR pile but there has to be books you’ve been meaning to read but haven’t yet, right?

J9: I admit I don’t have a TBR pile.  I may have 10 or 15 books I want to read but that’s about a week or 10 days worth so I just read them.  There are some books, or more likely series, that I hear are so good I should read but I haven’t.

Brianna: Yes! I have series on my TBR list as well; series that I have yet to start reading but have heard good things about. Lots of series. Like LotU by Gena Showalter, Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane, Demonica by Larissa Ione, Riley Jenson by Keri Arthur, and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – just to name a few.

J9: WHAT?! You haven’t read Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld yet?! You gotta! I’ve adored this series and eat them like candy bars the moment they’re released.  Sure, there are some lowlights but the highlights are so good! My favorite is The Darkest Pleasure, book 3 featuring Reyes, the keeper of the demon Pain and soft but strong Danika. Move this series to the top of your TBR pile!

Brianna: I know. I have the first 6 books in the LotU series in my possession, I just haven’t read them yet. I do that a lot - collect books in a series but sit unread. And I know you already know this, but, I’m burned out on PNR so I don’t know how long it’ll be before I read that series.

Then there are the three Nicholas Sparks’ books that I need (and want!) to read: The Wedding, Three Weeks With My Brother, and Safe Haven. I am a huge Sparks fan so it’s a wonder why I haven’t read these books yet. Shameful, really. *hangs head in shame*

J9: Wow, that is a huge surprise since I know what a Sparks’ fan you are! For me it’s series by authors I love.  Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series is a huge reader favorite and since I adore her Psy-Changeling series, I really should try it.  I’m also a huge fan of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood but for some reason I keep starting her Fallen Angels series and never get past the middle of book one, Covet

I know that Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series is part of the romance canon but I can’t get past page 75 of book one before I’m bored. Please don’t hate me!

Brianna: I read Covet and it was just okay. I’d rather just stick with her BDB series. I started Outlander but put it on the backburner 80 pages in. The beginning is soooo boring! I’ve been told that once Claire jumps back in time that it gets really good but that doesn’t happen until about 100 pages in. One of these days I’ll have to pick it back up.

So J9, why is it that you, a reader who literally has no TBR pile because you gobble up books like I gobble up chocolate, haven’t started those series you’re interested in?

J9: Um...I have no good answer. Maybe because I’m reading so much MM romance these days or I don’t want to spend the money for a new series but probably because I’m ornery. So why don’t you?

Brianna: My reason is a classic case of ‘so many books, so little time’ syndrome ;)

Now we’re turning the tables on you – what books are on your ‘should’ve read but haven’t yet’ list?

  1. Don't feel alone. I have a couple of small stacks of some wonderful books that I need to get busy reading. I seem to read in spurts. I can have 3 books going at once and be into each one. Then there are times like now, super slowed down. Got to get going real soon!

    1. My reading has finally picked up again. I was in a bit of a slump and that certainly wasn't helping with my TBR pile.

  2. I have around 100 paperbacks on my shelf I NEED to read. Not counting all the books on my Nook.

    1. I have over 250+ books on my shelves to read and almost 500 on my Kindle. At the rate I'm going (with buying new books and getting books from NG and E), I'll never have to worry about running out of books to read O_o

  3. I can't yell at you for not starting LotU (which is awesome). A popular series I haven't read is Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. Have book 1 but that's as far as I've gotten.

    1. I've read KMM's Fever series and frankly it's not a series I can recommend. I know I'm in the minority with having that opinion but I still have beef with KMM over Shadow fever, and the wild goose chase that was, as well as the continuation of the series (when she said that SF was the final book).

  4. I have the feeling that I am going to get yelled at but for me, one of the series on my list is the BDB series. I have bought the first few books but just haven't started them yet....as a matter of fact, I have the first one laying right next to me, lol. Must get them started!

    1. Dark Lover, the first book, is my favorite of the series. This is a great PNR series. Hope you enjoy it :)

    2. June M.! Don't make me freakin' lose my mind! Read the BDB series! ;-) Seriously, it's so good I'm almost envious that you haven't read it so you'll get to for the first time. I think the first 3 are my abso favs but the rest are damn good too. And with Qhuay being released on March 26, I'll be giddy with the first MM romance in the series.

  5. I sometimes feel like I'm going to be smothered by my books while I sleep at night...LOL. I have a TON of series that I've been meaning to read or continue, which is why I'm focusing on series this year in the Seriously Series challenge. I have a ton of series that I want to start, like Downside, Demonica, Rick Riordan's two series, Shatter Me, Under the Never Sky, Benny Imura...

And then there are a ton that I want to finish this year, like Elemental Assassin, Mercy Thompson, BBD, LoTU, Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices, Chicagoland Vampires...

    ayyyyyye!

    Too. Many. Books.

  6. OMG, J9, you don't have a TBR?!?! how is that even possible. I admit my tbr pile is literally over 800 books deep....no, that is NOT a typo...800!!! Obviously too many to list, but I've stopped accepting reviews so I should start making a dent in it soon (if I stop buying anyway...hehe). smiles....

    1. I can't even imagine not having a TBR. It's like having a limb. LOL My TBR is almost at 800 books so I'm right there with you :)

    2. hehe...I'm glad I'm not alone. I have to admit that it makes me happy to see all the good reading I have waiting there for me to read (yes, I can go look since about 500 of them are physical books.) I really should open a library in my house, but that would risk my pretty spines, so I will just stroke and plan for the day when I can read every single one of them. smiles....

    3. I know, Christi, it's weird I don't have a TBR. I just read it if I want it. I'm always thinking I'm going to start one but then the books look so good so I read them--sorta defeats the purpose of a TBR! I've had some help on Goodreads with people suggesting books so I think I have 6 on my "want to read" list but most aren't out yet! LOL
